need to know
We ask Congress to use extreme caution when making changes to the U.S. patent system. It is the foundation for the most innovative and dynamic economy in the world. Inventors, investors, startups, universities and thousands of companies rely on it to bring breakthroughs to the market.
The courts and judicial process have addressed issues in patent litigation such as fee shifting and limitations on discovery and pleadings. The so-called "patent trolls" are being squeezed out of the system and the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office is working on improvements to patent quality, reviewing existing patents and implementing the America Invents Act, which passed just a few years ago.
Congress needs to let these changes take hold and needs to shift its focus to an agenda that promotes inventors and strengthens their ability to protect their ideas and turn them into jobs and economic growth.
