We ask Congress to advance legislation, such as the STRONGER Patents Act (S. 2082/H.R. 3666), that would strengthen the U.S. patent system and help ensure that the promises of the America Invents Act (AIA) are realized. Supporting our patent system is critical because it is the foundation of the most innovative and dynamic economy in the world. Inventors, investors, startups, universities, and thousands of companies rely on it to bring breakthroughs to the market.

The courts and judicial process have addressed some key issues in patent litigation, such as fee shifting and limitations on discovery and pleadings. The so-called "patent trolls" are being squeezed out of the system, and the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) is working on improving patent quality, reviewing existing patents, and implementing the AIA.  

Congress also must pursue an agenda that promotes inventors and strengthens their ability to protect their ideas and turn them into jobs and economic growth. We therefore encourage Congress to pass the STRONGER Patents Act, because it would help protect the property rights of patent owners, strengthen the process for getting rid of bad patents, and reduce abusive and frivolous litigation.
